On 29-30 March 2018, the Court of Accounts of the Republic of Moldova, in cooperation with the Court of Accounts of Ukraine organized the Fourth Meeting of the EUROSAI Working Group on the Audit of Funds allocated to Disasters and Catastrophes.

The event began with a minute of silence in memory of the tragedy victims in the Russian city of Kemerovo.

The mission of the Working Group was to strengthen cooperation in the field of developing the potential audit, coordinating the efforts of the European states in managing the actions with the impact of prevention and liquidation of the consequences of natural disasters.

"The Working Group's strategic development objectives are to complement the joint efforts of the supreme audit institutions within EUROSAI, to identify the most relevant issues related to disaster prevention and disaster relief and to work together to conduct in an effective way the audits on this issue ", Veaceslav Untila, President of the Court of Conduct of the Republic of Moldova, mentioned.

The objectives of the Working Group also focused on the international initiation and coordination of joint / parallel audits in areas relevant to the activity of the Working Group as well as the exchange of knowledge in audits in the field of disaster prevention and disaster relief.

Workshop participants addressed concrete situations identified in the countries they represent, eventually outlining a general picture of the challenges posed by disasters, calamities and problematic waste management.

Taking into account the current character of these issues for the Republic of Moldova, the Supreme Audit Institution in Chisinau completed the collective concern of the Working Group with the proposal that, together with the Court of Accounts of Ukraine, to undertake audits of the Nistru River basin.

Such a Project would bring more clarity to environmental issues in the area of this important aquatic basin. The CoA team's initiative is aimed at enhancing capacities to eliminate the risks posed by the problems in this area and in providing good information to competent institutions and decision-makers to formulate the necessary solutions.

The Court of Accounts makes use of the working tools of the EUROSAI Group, based on the regional and international nature of the problems that environmental issues may cause in time.

The involvement of the supreme audit institution in the country on the extent of nature protection and the prevention of serious situations is evidence that the CoA assumes responsibilities and concerns stemming from the overriding interests of society.
