Workshop for journalists

The Court of Accounts (CoA) of the Republic of Moldova, the Institute of Public Policy (IPP) and the Journalistic Investigations Center (JIC) held on 27th February 2013 a workshop for media representatives. The event, attended by 26 journalists, the CoA, IPP and JIC representatives, was held in the CoA's meeting room.

The theme of the workshop was focused on issues related to efficient use of public money and implementation of the CoA's recommendations. Cornelia Cozonac, JIC President came to the journalists with an overview of methods, rules, experiences and best practices of achieving the journalistic investigations.

Presentations and speeches of CoA's representatives aimed to familiarize the representatives "of the fourth state power" with the institution's activities, key elements of audit activity, systemic problems in different areas of verification, etc..

Serafim Urechean, President of the CoA, spoke about the institution's areas of activity, transparency and access to information, reiterating objections of topics coverage relating to Court of Accounts reports in the media.

An overview on public external audit, on the basics of audit activity, on the institution's objectives, on work outcomes and relevance, was done by Angela Pascaru, Member of the Court of Accounts. Sergiu Terguta, Head of Analytical Section demonstrated the practical tools integrated into the CoA's website, providing useful information about how to streamline the selection and to search information. Angela Frunze, Head of the General Division of Methodology, Planning and Analysis familiarized the audience with the indicators used to assess audit activity, including monitoring the enforcement of CoA decisions. The Heads of the General Divisions of Audit: Natalia Trofim, Sofia Ciuvalschi, Valentina Madan, Vladimir Potlog informed about the areas of audit activity, identified systemic problems, etc., in a live dialogue with journalists. Media representatives had also the opportunity to discuss all the topics they were interested in, clarifying a set of relevant details with the Members of the Court of Accounts: Ecaterina Paknehad, Valeriu Chitan, Gheorghe Trocin, Ion Sturzu.

The workshop was organized under the Project "Recommendations of the Court of Accounts - a tool for efficient use of public money", implemented by the Institute of Public Policy in collaboration with the Court of Accounts, with the financial support of the Soros Foundation-Moldova.
