INTOSAI Working Group on Public Debt meeting

The representatives of the Court of Accounts of the Republic of Moldova (CoARM) participated in the annual meeting of the INTOSAI Working Group on Public Debt. The event took place in the city of Baku, Azerbaijan, between June 5-7 this year.

The meeting was attended by representatives of Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) from about 24 countries, members of the Working Group, such as the Maldives, Lithuania, China, Bulgaria, Kuwait, Jordan, Kenya, Yemen, Malaysia, Georgia, India, Egypt, Turkey, Thailand, South Korea, Azerbaijan, Philippines, Argentina, Brazil, Russia, Romania, Pakistan, Macedonia, etc. The event was also attended by experts from the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the Organization for International Budget Cooperation and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

The participants addressed the theme "Response to the global challenges of public debt".

The speech delivered by the Vice President of the Court of Accounts of Azerbaijan, Nasir Sadigov emphasized the importance of hosting the Working Group meeting and noted that the reforms in the field of public finance management, including public debt management, have given rise to significant changes in the field of external public audit.

Other topics related to "Public Debt and Climate Change: Selected Legal Aspects", "Coordination and Monitoring of Debt Management Reforms", "Understanding Different Methodologies for Debt Sustainability and Assessing Debt Sustainability" were also discussed during the event, "Public debt sustainability and risk management", "ISA's role and challenges in public debt auditing", etc.

To be pointed out  that the Working Group prepares and elaborates guidelines and other informative materials for the higher audit bodies in order to promote the proper management of the public debt and strengthen the responsibility in the relevant field. At the same time, the Working Group supports ISA in developing knowledge and skills through experience, information exchange and collaboration between members, partners and stakeholders.
